This weeks challenge was once again, step-based, with each team being asked to send in their weekly steps with rewards for the teams completing the most! If a team completed a single step more than another they could have walked away with the grand prize of 10 huge league points!
When submissions began arriving in it was the Green team who looked to set the mark, with the exceptional Ross Bothroyd submitting a league-beating 136,901 steps over a 7-day period. With Steve Turner, James Brockbank and Jay Pepper contributing high scores, it looked like they'd be difficult to beat.
Boyz in Dahoud joined the race with captain Tony Foreman, Mark Richards and our clubs resident Moroccan, Connor Burnett, contributing to their score. However for the White team it wasn't meant to be as participation ended low and saw them finish 4th in the table. With a respectful 295,331 steps, they took a solitary point for participation reasons, though one more submission would have doubled this. Their position at the top of the league table remains, but the gap has been closed now by the efforts of the Green team.
Brut FC did manage a total of 8 entries in this round, short of a 3rd bonus point by one member! They finished 3rd with a total 615,093 steps, an incredible effort by all means, and the highest steps-per-player rate, in part thanks to the efforts of Ross. They've narrowly closed the gap on Boyz in Dahoud, but will now be looking over their shoulders at Exeter Gently.
It was however the Orange and Black teams who stunned in this challenge round, rallying their players to contribute and showing exactly what can be achieved when everybody gets involved!
Exeter Gently FC (Black) were led in their efforts by Adam Cree, with a total 111,448 steps, joined in the 100,000+ club by Macca Smith and Craig Atkinson, with Jake Campbell just short of the 100,000 mark! A further 10 lads got involved giving the Black team 4 bonus points, again, one shy of a 5th point. Their team's total was boosted late on and saw the Black team finish with an incredible 865,545 steps and finishing 2nd. This pushed the Black team right back into the title race!
Livin' Saliba Loca set a record as the first team to rally the maximum participation bonus points, with 15 members taking part, for the team who really needed some points on the table. Scoring a guaranteed 5 points through participation was of course instrumental in boosting the numbers for the Orange team, who's entries varied from 29,061 all the way up to Scott Riley's impressive 115,768 steps! He was joined at the top by Dan Wright and captain Danny John in the 100,000+ steps club! Finishing with an insane 924,271 steps between them crowned the Orange team as winners of the Step It Up: Team Challenge!
Well done to everyone who took part in the challenge, while it doesn't change the positions in the table, it definitely puts pressure on the teams at the top as we enter the final quarter of the season. Three league games could be decisive, as well as the final challenge of the season (Halloween Costumes!), but in Week 11 teams will also be competing on the scales with a point-per-kilo round leaving it ALL to weigh for!
Achieving 2,700,240 steps in one week is an amazing feat, the average just under the World Health Organisation recommended 10,000 steps per day and shows just how much our lads stepped it up in Season 2!
